Montolivo Joining Milan in Summer

Max Allegri has confirmed that Riccardo Montolivo will join the Rossoneri this summer. This is another Bosman signing for Milan, and another central midfielder.

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed the arrival of Riccardo Montolivo ahead of the 2012-13 campaign.

The Fiorentina midfielder is out of contract this summer and, after many months of speculation, the Italy international is now set to make a move to San Siro on a free transfer.

Milan missed out on claiming consecutive Scudetti last week with Juventus winning Serie A, and speaking ahead of his team’s final game against Novara on Sunday, the former Cagliari man confirmed the deal for Montolivo.

“Next season we will have Montolivo who is a very good player, very technical. Milan must remain competitive, we must continue the work we started last year. We will start with great enthusiasm, he told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

Moving on to discuss the Rossoneri’s campaign, the head trainer was fairly blunt in his verdict on how the year had panned out.

“It’s been a failure. The team has done all it could do but there were unexpected errors. The crossroads of the season? The [second] game against Juventus. We missed a lot of players in that game and maybe if we won, things would have been different.”

The game will be an emotional one for many involved with the club as it will represent the final chance to see Alessandro Nesta, Gennaro Gattuso, Pippo Inzaghi and Mark van Bommel in the red-and-black shirts of Milan, while Clarence Seedorf is also expected to leave the team this summer.

“It’s an important day because there are players leaving who have made history for Milan, who have won a lot. They are real men who gave me a big hand when I arrived. They leave AC Milan as players who were part of a great team, but in life we must look ahead. Tomorrow there will be great sadness in saluting these great champions,” he concluded.

  1. The identity of Milan has changed overnight. I am surprised that none of the old guard is staying for one more season. It will be interesting to see which personalities rise and how the team develops over the summer.

I'd love to hear what you think. Please share
